Then why isn't he the head man while Meyer is on 'leave'?
Buckeye preseason camp doesn't open up for 3 more days and he is on staff as Urban's DC. Meyer's legal team is most likely negotiating a golden parachute for Urban. Wouldn't be prudent to name anyone yet.

I do not take domestic abuse lightly but I can't see how this would be the end of Meyer at OSU. He didn't act because he is not the authorities. If the wife brought charges to authorities why would Meyer have to do anything when he found out. The legal process would have to play out before he could do anything I would assume. He probably didn't tell anyone because the investigation was not complete and he probably didn't fire the guy because we wasn't found guilty at that point. Once he was found guilty, then he was fired I assume? Sorry if I don't have all the details. Its not like Meyer participated in the act of violence or obstructed a police investigation withholding evidence was it?

Now if the player abuse claim is valid in that he was personally involved then yeah boot his ass.

Not in the same league of coverup
Really. Those 30 + players arrested by Urban's squads @ Florida don't count? The ones he covered up, including domestic violence, sexual assault, weapons charges, etc. This event is just another in a long line of cover ups by Urban.

Here is the money quote on why she didn’t file charges in 2009 [from McMurphy]...

A few days after Zach’s 2009 arrest, Courtney said two of Meyer’s closest friends – Hiram de Fries and Earle Bruce – asked her to drop the charges. Bruce is Zach Smith’s grandfather, de Fries is Meyer’s “life coach.”

So not only was Earle Bruce the grandfather of Smith but also Urban Meyer’s mentor. He was also the head coach at Ohio St and gave Meyer his first job. Basically there was a lot of pressure on her from multiple angles to not press charges. Btw she was pregnant when Smith allegedly abused her in 2009.

Now you have know that in 2009 Smith wasn’t working for Meyer yet. Smith was working at Ohio St while Meyer was still at Florida but Meyer and his wife both knew of the situation and helped them get counseling from the incident. When the alleged abuse occurred again in 2015 Smith WAS working under Meyer at Ohio St. Back to the original quote of her being pressured in 09’ to not press charges... The pressure would’ve been 10x that in 2015 considering Urban Meyer was now the head coach at Ohio St.

Photos that Courtney said she shared via text with other wives show bruises on Courtney’s neck and arms from beatings she suffered in 2014 and 2015. Another photo shows blood gushing out of her thumb when Zach cut her with the metal top of a smokeless tobacco can after another 2014 incident.

So Smith’s defense of the photos were due to him “restraining” her. Basically blaming her.

and the latest update is a FUBAR with the local cops. Made the charges disappear and no arrests. Love those college town cops and prosecutors. :sarcasm:

Meyer barred from contact with players, coaches

https://247sports.com/college/ohio-...ayers-coaches-during-investigation-120561576/

Ohio State's Urban Meyer is not leading his team in fall camp. The Ohio State head coach was put on paid administrative leave last week while the university investigates what knowledge he had, and if he reported anything he did know correctly, involving accusations that former wide receivers coach Zach Smith committed domestic violence on his now ex-wife back in 2015. In his place stepped Ryan Day, the Buckeyes' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, who was promoted to acting head coach on Aug. 1, the day Meyer was put on leave.

The thought of most Ohio State fans was that Meyer, while not physically at practice, which began on Aug. 3, would still have his presence felt at fall camp by watching tape and communicating with his assistants. According to a report from Cleveland.com's Bill Landis, that is not the case. Landis reported on Thursday that Meyer "is not permitted any contact with players, coaches or staff members while he's on paid administrative leave pending a university investigation." This was confirmed to Cleveland.com by Ohio State's associate vice president for university communications, Christopher Davies.

According to Landis, Meyer does not have access to any university-issued communication devices or his school email account and is also not permitted on campus property, including the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, where the football team does much of its practicing, and the football offices.
