Almost midway through North Carolina baseball’s Game 3 of the championship of the 2026 College World Series, relief pitcher Caden Glauber was visibly struggling on the bump, leading to some disscusions with the umpires.
Glauber was the fifth arm the No. 5 Tar Heels threw against Oklahoma, entering the game in the fourth inning. The right-handed freshman’s night came to a quick end, throwing just eight pitches and not recording an out as North Carolina trailed 7-1.
“I felt like they started the clock a little bit too quick on Glauber,” UNC coach Scott Forbes said during his ESPN interview after fourth inning. “Obviously, they have a clock operator here. But we’ve gotta adjust. I’m not gonna play the blame game. We don’t make excuses here. It is what it is. We don’t make excuses here. We just gotta flush it and we gotta just get back to playing.”
That short outing would mark final appearance of the season leaving the job up to the rest of the Tar Heels’ bullpen to combat the Sooners’ explosive lineup. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Glauber was a key weapon for North Carolina’s pitching throughout the season and its CWS run.
He finished his first season as a Tar Heel with a perfect 12-0 record, striking out over 100 batters. In 92 innings pitched, Glauber has walked just 41 batters and finished with a 2.01 ERA.
In Game 2 against the Sooners, Glauber pitched for five innings and struck out eight batters en route to a 6-2 victory and his twelfth win on the bump. Forbes and his staff were likely banking on using the righty more than in this championship finale.
