EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Despite a late push by Illinois State, the University of Evansville men’s basketball team beat the Redbirds 88-80 Monday night in the Ford Center.
The Purple Aces trailed by as much as nine early in the first half, but then stormed back to lead by as much as 16. UE went into the half leading 45-32 after Landon Moore hit a three pointer at the buzzer.
In the second half, Evansville continued their hot shooting pushing the lead to 19 on four occasions in the half. The Purple Aces shot a season high 56.9 percent from the floor against Illinois State and 66.7 percent from three-point range. But late in the second half, the Redbirds went on a run and cut the lead down to six before UE won by eight.
AJ Casey led the way for Evansville with a career high 28 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. The freshman backcourt of Bryce Quinet and Leif Moeller combined for 33 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. While Kaia Berridge also recorded a career high with 14 points off the bench.
The Purple Aces will be back in action Thursday, February 12th, at Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. The game is set to stream on ESPN Plus.
