EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — For the fourth time in five games, the University of Evansville women’s basketball team lost a close game. The Purple Aces fell to Bradley 79-68 in Meeks Family Fieldhouse Friday Night.
After trailing by as much as 12 points in the first quarter, UE gave themselves a chance late to protect home court and get a bounce back win over the Braves. But the team could not get the deficit down lower than five. Bradley also went 8/10 on free throws in the fourth to hold off the Purple Aces comeback.
Coming into the game, head coach Robyn Scherr said UE can compete with any team in the conference if they could keep the games close and give themselves a chance. That was the playbook to a T, but they couldn’t come up with the steals to win.
The game against Bradley was also the latest tip-time the Purple Aces played all season with the game getting underway at 7 p.m. The game was coined “Aces After Dark” game because of the late start time.
On the court, Georgia Cox led Evansville with 20 points, four assists, and two steals. While the freshman, Sydney Huber finished with 18 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Camryn Runner rounded out the group in double-digit scoring with 12 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
UE will be back in action Sunday, February 15th against Illinois State at 3 p.m. The game is scheduled to stream on ESPN Plus.
