To show you how year-round the NBA business is, the 2026 NBA draft is right around the corner. Not even two full weeks are left before the Oklahoma City Thunder and the rest of the league look to add a new pool of talent. This will be their chance to inject some youth into the back of their roster.
For the Thunder, they continue to enjoy the best of both worlds — contending for a Larry O'Brien trophy and doing their homework for a lottery addition. They will enter the 2026 NBA draft with three draft picks — No. 12 via the LA Clippers; No. 17 via the Philadelphia 76ers; and No. 37 via the Dallas Mavericks.
One prospect the Thunder have presumably met with is UConn's Tarris Reed Jr. He was recently spotted at the OKC airport, which means it's safe to assume he visited with the team in a predraft visit. He played in four collegiate seasons from 2022-26. He played in two seasons at Michigan before transferring to the Huskies. He averaged 14.7 points on 60.7% shooting, nine rebounds, 2.3 assists and two blocks in 35 games this past season.
The 22-year-old is a 6-foot-11, 265-pound center. Most NBA mock drafts have him going in the late first round to the second round. That means the Thunder will need to reach No. 17 or hope to see him fall to No. 37. Maybe they can trade back to his range depending on how the draft plays out.
The 2026 NBA draft will take place from June 23-24. The Thunder will look to add more young talent to their roster to keep their contending window open as long as possible around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams.
