UCLA's junior right-handed pitcher Logan Reddemann had 18 strikeouts in the Rutgers series opener on Friday, which tied the Bruins single-game strikeout record.
Reddemann pitched eight innings in the 14 inning slugfest and gave up just two hits, a walk and a run, which helped the Bruins eventually take the game 4-1. UCLA's veteran pitcher tied Rob Henkel's record that was set in 2000 against Washington, according to UCLA Athletics.
Buddy Shultz of Miami University (Ohio) has the NCAA all-time single-game record with his 26 strikeout game in 1971.
Before Reddemann's game against Rutgers, the most innings he pitched in a single game was 6.1 against Iowa on March 27, where he put up five strikeouts. He's currently struck out 79 batters this season with 10 strikeout performances in the series openers against TCU and Ohio State.
The Bruins pitching staff didn't allow Reddemann to have all the fun against the Scarlet Knights. UCLA used four pitchers against Rutgers and Reddemann's record-tying outing capped off the team's 30 strikeout frenzy to propel them to a 31-2 overall record and remain undefeated within the conference.
