No. 1 UCLA baseball remains undefeated in Big Ten conference play after sweeping No. 12 USC in the rivalry series at Jackie Robinson Stadium over the weekend. The Bruins’ 23-game winning streak is the longest in program history.
UCLA and USC are the two highest-ranked Big Ten teams in the nation but the Trojans are third overall in conference play behind No. 19 Nebraska.
The Bruins Dominated in Two of Three Games
In two of the three games of the series, UCLA won by six or more runs. In the series opener on Friday, the Bruins put up a seven-run eighth inning to win 12-4, then UCLA won 10-4 in the series finale on Sunday.
Saturday’s game was close and nearly ended the Bruins’ undefeated conference streak. But after overcoming a four lead changes, UCLA dealt USC its first series loss of conference play this season.
The Trojans held a 7-4 lead over the Bruins in the fifth inning before UCLA reclaimed the lead with a four-run sixth inning. Redshirt junior outfielder Payton Brennan was a star for the Bruins on Saturday. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and made a game-saving home run robbery in the ninth inning.

UCLA will be on the road against Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday before beginning its road series against Rutgers on Friday. The Bruins will return to Jackie Robinson Field for a game against UC Santa Barbara on April 14.
