The No. 1 UCLA baseball team took game two of their series 9-8 against the No. 12 USC Trojans at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The Bruins took the game by just one run, unlike their monster 12-4 blowout win in the series opener on Friday. UCLA's batters continued to make contact and get the best of the Trojans bullpen with a total of 12 hits for eight RBI's nine runs.

Fast start

The Trojans scored the first run of the game, but after three hits the Bruins didn't allow them to increase their lead any more, as USC left two runners on base in the top of the first. UCLA got on the board in the bottom of the second and with five hits, taking a 3-1 lead.

Falling behind in the third

The Trojans responded in the top of the third, with five hits leading to four runs of their own as they recaptured the lead 5-3. In the bottom of the third, UCLA managed to cut into USC's lead with redshirt junior outfielder Payton Brennan hitting the Bruins only home run of the game.

Losing control in the fifth

UCLA fell even farther behind USC in the top of the fifth with a hit and an error leading to two more runs. The Trojans gained full control of the game.

UCLA's comeback

The Bruins took the lead with a gritty performance at bat with three hits leading to four runs to put the Bruins up 8-7 at the end of the sixth.

Closing out another win

USC scored another run in the top of the eighth to tie the game back up at eight runs a piece, but UCLA scored their tie-breaking run off of a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning. UCLA allowed a base runner off of a fielding error in the top of the ninth, but didn't allow any runs to secure the win.

UCLA will play their final game of the series on Sunday with an anticipated start time of 4 p.m. PT.
