ORLANDO — UCF's athletics department reported landmark revenue and expense figures in its agreed-upon procedures records, obtained this month by The News-Journal.
According to the records, UCF reported $108.89 million in revenue and $103.62 million in expenses for the fiscal year of 2025 — the school’s second as a member of the Big 12 Conference.
The $5.27 million in reported surplus is due to presentation and classification differences and does not reflect the full financial statements, or the actual operating surplus or spendable cash, according to a university spokesman.
In 2024, UCF reported $98.16 million in revenue and $97.45 million in expenses.
Contributions skyrocketed by more than 80%, up to $27.9 million from $15.4 million in 2024. Of that total, $23.8 million directly benefitted UCF’s football program, including the Roth Tower construction project.
Terry Mohajir, UCF’s vice president and director of athletics, attributed the increase to “excellent work and efforts by our fundraising and ChargeOn (Fund) teams.”
Ticket sales revenue increased by about 9.6% ($739,132), and the school received nearly $2 million more in distributions from the Big 12. UCF becomes a full-share member for the first time starting in the 2026-27 season.
Per the report, nine of the school's 14 scholarship teams had an operating revenue that exceeded its operating expenses. Football, unsurprisingly, generated the largest profit at nearly $21.5 million.
Coaching salaries, including benefits and bonuses, topped the list of expenses for UCF’s athletics department, totaling $19.2 million — an increase of just over 9% from the year before. Including the head coach salary and those for the 10 traditional on-field assistant roles, the Knights’ football coaches earned roughly $9.4 million.
Men’s basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins earned more than $2 million, and women’s basketball coach Sytia Messer made a shade over $740,000.
UCF also issued $328,532 in severance payments for Gus Malzahn’s outgoing football staff, including former defensive coordinator Ted Roof, who was fired eight games into the 2024 campaign.
