LSU football's loss to Houston was a disappointing end to a frustrating season for everyone who cares about the program. The future may be bright in Baton Rouge, with Lane Kiffin and his staff taking over the Tigers’ football team, but that Texas Bowl loss still stung.
That was particularly so for former LSU safety Tyrann Mathieu, who discussed the performance on a recent episode of his podcast, “In The Bayou.”
“I had a rough day, bruh. You know, there was a point in time where I never saw us losing to schools like that,” Mathieu said. “I say this respectfully, but we should be able to pull up with our second string and beat that school.”
Mathieu expressed his understanding that LSU was severely undermanned in the matchup, missing several starters on both sides of the ball. However, his comments about being able to beat Houston with the second string made it clear he wasn’t cutting the Tigers any slack.
To be clear, he shouldn’t. Even though this new era of College Football has made it possible for lower-level Power Four schools like Houston to compete with some of the better programs, LSU has too much talent to lose to a team like that — even with injuries and transfer portal departures taking more than a few starters off the field.
Hopefully, this sort of performance will be the final mark of a rough stretch for LSU Football. Lane Kiffin is now taking over the program, and most of his offensive staff is set to join him soon — barring an Ole Miss upset over Georgia Thursday night.
