Voice confrontation is the term for a common phenomenon: People often hate the sound of their own voice.

For Rams rookie quarterback Ty Simpson, though, that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Simpson told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Timesthat he wakes up and goes to sleep hearing his own voice that he’s recorded reciting Rams play calls.

“I want to make sure it’s the last thing I think about when I go to bed,” he said, “and the first thing that I wake up to.”

It isn’t a new practice for Simpson, who reportedly did the same thing while a signal-caller at Alabama.

But when faced with an overwhelming amount of new information, Simpson said it’s something that helps.

“Feel like I’m a freshman again — drinking from a fire hydrant,” he said. “The quarterback runs the show here, just how I like it.”

Ty Simpson facing intense rookie season

Simpson certainly won’t be easing his way into professional football.

The 13th overall draft pick was taken as a likely successor to defending MVP Matthew Stafford, though Stafford and others reportedly wanted more offensive weapons.

The Rams, after all, were just a play or two away from a berth in Super Bowl LX earlier this year.

LA has certainly gotten better in the offseason — trading for pass rusher Myles Garrett will do that — but Simpson remains emblematic of the offseason.

If the Rams fall short of their Super Bowl LXI goals, it’s likely the front office and, by extension, Simpson will receive the criticism.

Despite that possibility, the young quarterback previously told Klein he’s making the best of the situation.

“I just know they called my name on the 13th pick — and, sign me up, I was going to Los Angeles,” Simpson said. “I don’t really get into all that. … I just have to make sure I do whatever my process is, and make sure that I do whatever the team needs me to do.”

And if drilling those play calls into himself is what makes the difference, Simpson seems open to that.

He’s just trying to keep up with Stafford and follow backup Stetson Bennett IV.

“So when I get in the game and hear a play call, I can just imagine it and see it,” he said. “That’s a big thing, just knowing the terminology and being detail-oriented just like Matthew and Stetson.”
