The Pittsburgh Steelers' countdown to kickoff is full steam ahead for the 2026 NFL regular season, with fans needing to wait only 71 more days until the Steel City brand of football returns when the Steelers host the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.

In the spirit of the countdown, we at Steelers Wire will take a look at the history of the No. 71 jersey and analyze which players wore it best.

Steelers current No. 71: OT Max Iheanachor

The current No. 71 wearer, Iheanachor, was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Viewed as a developmental offensive tackle with massive upside, Iheanachor will be a player to watch during training camp.

Last five Steelers to wear No. 71

  • Max Iheanachor, 2026-present
  • Andrus Peat, 2025
  • Nate Herbig, 2023-2024
  • Joe Haeg, 2021
  • Matt Feiler, 2017-2020

Best No. 71 in Steelers history: OT Charlie Bradshaw

The No. 71 jersey hasn't seen much success on the Steelers in recent years, but the greatest wearer is an offensive tackle from the 1960s: two-time Pro Bowler Charlie Bradshaw.

Bradshaw actually began his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams in 1958. After three seasons, Bradshaw joined the Steelers in 1961.

During his six years with the Steelers, Bradshaw appeared in 82 games and made 80 starts. He was named to his only two Pro Bowls in 1963 and 1964 during his time with Pittsburgh.

Selected to the Pittsburgh Steelers Legends Team, Bradshaw is the best No. 71 in team history.
