The Pittsburgh Steelers' countdown to kickoff is full steam ahead for the 2026 NFL regular season, with fans needing to wait only 77 more days until the Steel City brand of football returns when the Steelers host the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.

In the spirit of the countdown, we at Steelers Wire will take a look at the history of the No. 77 jersey and analyze which players wore it best.

Steelers current No. 77: OT Broderick Jones

Jones, selected by the Steelers with the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is the current No. 77 wearer on the roster. He suffered a significant neck injury in the latter half of the 2025 season and questions remain about whether or not he'll be at 100% before the start of the upcoming 2026 season.

Last five Steelers to wear No. 77

  • Broderick Jones, 2023-present
  • Jesse Davis, 2022
  • John Leglue, 2021
  • Derwin Gray, 2020
  • Marcus Gilbert, 2011-2018

Best No. 77 in Steelers history: OT Marvel Smith

The greatest No. 77 wearer in Steelers history is offensive tackle Marvel Smith.

Smith, selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft, went on to play nine seasons in the NFL, including eight with Pittsburgh. Playing in 111 games for the Steelers, including 108 starts, Smith earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2004.

Smith, a two-time Super Bowl champion, is without a doubt the best No. 77 in team history.
