SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Ozona High School football team had an incredible first season under head coach Jason Pitts last year, and now they will see what they can do for an encore.
The Lions were 10-1 last year and they enjoyed their first perfect regular season in 23 years. They got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.
Christian Villarreal finished his remarkable Lions career as one of the top running backs in Texas schoolboy history last season.
It’s pretty much impossible to replace someone with those kind of credentials, but the Lions will be hungry to make some noise again in 2026.
Pitts says they will get the ball in more players’ hands this season, and they hope to treat their fans to another enjoyable ride.
Except for losing Villarreal, the Lions have a lot of experience on their side.
Ozona returns eight starters on offense and six on defense.
