SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The No. 25-ranked Ozona High School girls basketball team is enjoying a strong second season under head coach Jerry McSherry, and the Lady Lions will take a three-game winning streak into Friday’s road game at Eldorado.

Ozona is 18-5 overall and 3-1 in District 7-2A. The Lady Lions’ only loss in district was on the road against No. 23 Christoval on Dec. 19.

Earlier in the season, the Lady Lions handed No. 2 Mason its only loss of the season so far at the Ozona Tournament.

Ozona only has two seniors on the roster — Kaidence Tambunga and Kelynn Bean – so the future should be bright.

The Lady Lions have been playing without two starters due to injuries, but they’re expecting to get one of them back on Friday or next week. The other starter suffered an ACL injury, and she will be having season-ending surgery.

But McSherry, a veteran coach with more than 30 years’ experience, says the Lady Lions are a resilient group with a next-player-up mentality.
