SIOUX FALLS — Tickets are now on sale for the 2026 South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame banquet that is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
Twenty-one sports legends are set to be inducted, including seven with ties to northeastern and north central South Dakota:
Other new inductees are Taylor Baker, Mike Begeman, Julie (Krauth) Dearring, Laticia DeCory, Dan Freidel, Barry French, Jeff Fylling, Randi (Morgan) Haines, Greg Jimmerson, Louis Koupal, Mike Miller, Kent Mueller, Thelma (Austin) Smalley and Jim Sorensen.
Blumhardt, French, Fylling, Jackson, Koupal and Smalley are being inducted posthumously.
With the 21 new inductees, the hall has enshrined 418 women and men from every part of the state representing more than 30 sports. Inductees are voted into the hall in four categories: athletes, coaches, contributors and/or legends (deceased).
The hall was established in 1968 by the South Dakota Sportswriters Association. A group of unpaid volunteers from across the state now manages it.

The link to buy tickets is on the redesigned Hall of Fame website at www.sdshof.com; click on the PURCHASE TICKETS tab. The cost is $60 for adults and $35 for kids 12 and under. You may designate an inductee to sit near when you order online. All major credit cards are accepted.
There will be a very limited number of tickets at the door, so please purchase tickets in advance. Social hour and media availability of inductees begins at 4:30 p.m. Dinner is at 6 p.m., followed by the program at 7 p.m.

- Jason Sutherland, a 1993 Watertown High School graduate who was one of the most gifted and versatile athletes in state history.
- Tim Miles, a Doland native and successful college basketball coach.
- Jim Dorman, a Castlewood native and statewide athletic administrating guru.
- Frank Cutler, a Langford native and career .400 amateur baseball hitter and coaching icon from Platte. He also taught and coached in Watertown.
- Howard Blumhardt, a multi-sport star at Bowdle and the University of South Dakota who was nicknamed the "Bowdle Blaster."
- Former Aberdeen News sports editor John Papendick, a lifelong South Dakota journalist and sports historian.
- Mylo Jackson, a former Aberdeen Central coach and athletic director. He coached the Golden Eagles to seven state titles in three different sports.
