The more I'm hearing about this movie the less excited I am for it. The director interviews have me concerned. It was bad enough having Leto in it but hearing about how it was written and some of the goals they were going for, oof. Sucks because I love the first two.

Saw it last night. It was…forgettable. Some of the action scenes were pretty cool, especially on the motorcycles, but that was about it. Several parts were a slog to get through, and there was some inconsistency in the story. Wouldn’t watch it again.

I will say that I thought bringing the grid to the ‘real world’ was pretty cool but it just wasn’t executed well.

That stinks. I was really hoping for something special here. They floating the idea you mentioned in the last film so I kind of figured that was next. I will still try and see it this weekend.

The reviews on it have been pretty brutal so far. It sounds like it's living up to what I expected after hearing the director's comments and it having Leto in it.

Seems to be a pretty big disparity between Reviews and Audience:

You can't trust RT for audience scores for new releases. Especially Disney ones. They've been caught manipulating/locking scores before for them. One of the threads on here awhile back had a discussion on it and more info.

So far out of about a dozen people that I've heard from, they're all giving reviews similar to @Town Drunk's one above. Good music and graphics, non-existent story line and what's there sucks. :( Really sucks because I love the original and Legacy.

Yeah, the music/soundtrack was pretty good. I should have mentioned that.

I'm still looking forward to this one. I thought Legacy kinda sukt and this one seems to be leaning towards full on action flick...which is what I hoped for since technology has caught up with the Tron concept.
Although, it may have been better had they just did a hard reboot with a full trilogy being the plan all along.
Because this is a franchise, even still, in which "concept is character" ... it was basically the stone age version of The Matrix...but rebooting and updating the tech from the beginning would have really opened up their possibilities

But now I'm thinking I need to go back and rewatch 1 and 2...just to be refreshed before Ares

Going to see this today. So, far the consensus from people I know who have seen it has been pretty consistent and on part with RT reviews. Great visuals, good sound track, light on plot but fun. We shall see this afternoon.

I really liked it. Was it great? No but was fun IMO and worth it. Pretty much agree with everyone I know that had seen the movie and the reviews I read.

My daughter wants to go back and see it in 3D.

Disney’s sci-fi sequel “Tron: Ares” opened to a disappointing $33.5 million this weekend, falling short of projections of $45 million to $50 million.

For comparison, 2010’s “Tron: Legacy” debuted to $44 million (not adjusted for inflation).

I had zero desire to see this but my niece did and my brother suggested if we were going we might as well go see it in 3D and you know what… we all had a pretty good time. Was definitely pretty stupid at times too, but after a slow start where I almost fell asleep a couple times in the first 15 minutes, it was a fun, popcorn-y ride with big action/visuals and another absolutely killer score that keeps the movie moving even when the story doesn’t.

I thought this movie was awesome because of the 3D effects. Watched with my 11 year old son. Didn’t expect a lot so it measured up. Significant improvement over the last one. Jeff bridges manages to still talk a lot about nothing. Great action scenes.

I would love it one of these movies would break the mold but we have to be honest. Not even the first two were anything but popcorn movies. Both movies had some really cheesy and bad parts. So, I got what I expected. Fun movie with cool visuals and sound.

I’d quibble with the first movie just being popcorn. Those were ground breaking special effects and the story was wayyyyyy ahead of its time. I also loved all those characters.

Yeah wasn’t really referencing the FX. For that time nothing had come out like it. I was referring some of the dialogue and acting.

That’s fair… and I’m probably coming at it from a bit of nostalgic POV also.

But at the very worst, that movie had a Flynn. This movie didn’t really have much of anything character-wise. Leto just doesn’t bring the same swag young Bridges did for me.
