Triston Casas faced another setback in his recovery from a wrist injury.
The Red Sox announced the first baseman underwent successful arthroscopic wrist surgery on Thursday.
Dr. Matthew Leibman at Newton-Wellesley Surgery Center in Wellesley performed the procedure.
It has been a rough go of it for Casas of late.
Casas hasn’t played for the Red Sox since May 2025. As he was running to first base, he suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery and he missed the rest of the season.

While in Fort Myers rehabbing his knee, Casas suffered a left abdominal strain in April. It was not related to his 2024 rib injury.
In July interim manager Chad Tracy revealed Casas had been shut down due to a wrist injury.
“He’s gone through a lot, between the knee, then he had a little hamstring flareup, obviously the oblique and he’s come back from that and now there’s a wrist that’s popped up,” he said. “We’ll keep an eye and once he’s able to, keep progressing.”
The Red Sox signed Willson Contreras in the offseason to take over as Boston’s first baseman amid all the uncertainty surrounding Casas. Contreras is batting .288 with 23 home runs and 70 RBI and has emerged as a veteran leader in the clubhouse.
There is no timeline for Casas’ return.
