Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson is not happy about his lack of a new contract, and can you blame him?

As an offseason holdout looks almost like a given at this point, the 2024 NFL sack leader spoke with reporters on Tuesday to express his continued displeasure with how Cincinnati is handling contract negotiations with his reps.

It's gotten so bad that Hendrickson said he will not play for the Bengals in 2025 without a new deal. He's even using a shark attack metaphor to describe why he's on the defensive with Cincinnati on the contract dispute.

“I'm a Floridian. [There are] unprovoked shark attacks, and there’s provoked shark attacks," Hendrickson told reporters, via WCPO's Marshall Kramsky.

Let's be real. If the Bengals want to win a Super Bowl next year, they need Hendrickson on the field. Him not playing for Cincinnati would be as substantial a blow to its title hopes as any non-Joe Burrow player not playing would be.

The Bengals need to do right by Hendrickson with a new deal, or they need to trade him away to a franchise that would properly compensate his elite production.
