LAKELAND — Lakeland’s DJ Dobie remained undefeated in the 100-meter dash, George Jenkins’ senior Chelsi Williams won another four individual district titles, Winter Haven’s Desirae Murray won two evens, and the Haines City boys qualified the most athletes for regionals in at least 10 years.
These were among the top highlights on Thursday from the Class 4A, District 6 Track and Field Meet that saw George Jenkins dominate the boys and girls team competition en route winning team district titles.
“Our kids competed super well,” George Jenkins coach Brian Robichaud said. “We had one mishap in the pole bowl, but other than that, our kids had lots of PRs. We got school records. Bryce Vern, in the javelin, launched one out there, 160 feet, so a big PR and school record. Our kids ran well.”

Vern’s win in the javelin was one of six events that the Jenkins boys won.
Caden Baker won the 1,600 and the 3,200, Gabriel Bourque won the poll vault, Simon Davis bounced back from a false start at the county meet to win the 110 hurdles in 15,56.
In the boys 100, Dobie improved to 5-0 in the 100 as he ran 10.79 to edge his cousin Jadarius Dobie (10:93). DJ’s time was just .03 off his personal record. Ranked No. 4 in the region, he hopes to get down to 10.6 this year and 10.4 next year as a senior.
“I just keep hydrated, keep drinking water and have a, good diet because I know that if I keep eating junk food and stuff like that, I won’t run very well,” he said.
Haines City finish third behind George Jenkins in the team competition but had four individual champions, including Isaiah Decant who won the long jump (22-07.25) and the triple jump (44.07.5). Teammate Yvenerson Elizee was second in both events.
Isaiah Augustin won the high jump, and Joshua Bordes won the 200.
Overall, Haines City coach Adam Summeralls said the Hornets qualified more athletes for regionals than he can remember — at least 10 years, he said.
For the Jenkins girls, Williams began her day by winning the long jump (19-04) and the triple jump (39-04.5) then easily won both the 100 hurdles (13.47) and the 400 hurdles (13.47).
She was the only multiple winner for the Jenkins girls. Taylor Gibson (javelin), Violet Smith (discus), Brass Black (pole vault) and Michaelah Williams (400) were the other individual champions. Jenkins also won the 4x800.
Winter Haven’s Desirae was Polk County’s only other double winner in the girls meet. She won the 100 (12.00) and 200 (24.93) and ran on Winter Haven’s winning 4x100 team.
Teammate Olivia Celiscar won the shot put and was second in the discus.
Haines City’s Kayla Gabriel won the high jump (5-01.75), which moves her into the top five in the region.
