Kevin Towers and Ken Kendricks are fools!
Not only has Kevin Towers made a fool of himself by decimating the D-backs starting pitching staff, he has made a fool of himself by opening his mouth.
Announcing to the Press that he wanted the D-backs pitchers to employ "an eye for an eye" was downright stupid. No matter which side of the Goldy/McCutchen incidents a fan stands on, his going public beforehand about throwing at batters achieved nothing positive in the eyes of the community or country.
But then, his boss Ken Kendricks did the same thing. Back when superstars were doping and the League and Front Offices were looking the other way because it attracted more paying fans, and the question of how Gonzo bulked up came into play, Kendricks had nothing to gain by going public with the Press. Kendricks was the last person who should have blindsided him.
What I am saying is that without taking sides on either issue, and regardless of what is encouraged behind the scenes, it is (I'll say it again) downright stupid for either the General Manager or Managing General Partner to go public with something negative about the D-backs.
If John Schnatter (the founder and CEO of Papa John's Pizza) did that, it wouldn't affect the community. The Valley would get along just fine without Papa John's. Personally I prefer Ray's (formerly Famous Ray's) Pizza.
But when Kevin Towers or Ken Kendricks make comments, it affects an entity in the public domain -- an MLB baseball team. Our MLB baseball team! At least, he better look at it that way if he intends to keep making money off us.
Whether we go through the turnstyles or support his TV sources or sponsors, we (directly or indirectly) provide his revenue. And from a moral point of view, he has an obligation as an owner to not degrade his team or our community.
So we have an owner with loose lips and a General Manager with loose lips who embarrass the team, the community and its fans. Not to mention their Manager who, as the saying went, would screw up a wet dream.
Hey, guys, if our Boys of Summer are going to keep screwing up, at least we can root for our Girls of Summer -- the 2-time Champion (on their way to a third) Phoenix Mercury. The Valley has a summer sports team we can be proud of.
