Prepare yourselves for another .500 or below season in 2026. Torey is a below average in-game manager (and that's a compliment) and a horrible bullpen manager with an overall managerial record well below .500. Hazen - be careful what you ask for, you may get it. Hazen sure loves him some Lovullo. Like other posters have said - this is no surprise. I guess Hazen felt the available managerial pool would not be an upgrade, so he does the conservative thing and stays the course with Torey.

Perdomo had a massive breakout year. Carroll did things no other MLB had ever done. Two young perennial all stars that feel a deep connection and admiration for Torey.
We’ll have to see what Hazen does this offseason to build a rotation and pen, while finding a legit left and center fielder, as well as a first basemen.
But given everything that transpired this season, Torey 100% earned the right to be back in ‘26.

Herrera as a backup and then the main catcher after Gabby got injured was a complete disaster

McCann and then Gabby coming back, seemed to turn the pitching staff around

McCann says he wants to return. Hard to imagine why the team wouldn’t find a way to make that happen. Certainly wouldn’t cost much.

Be careful what you ask for - you may get it. Hazen said that wins and losses don't really matter that much to him when he's evaluating managers/coaches. Torey's managerial record is 692 wins, 712 losses. That is what you call under .500. If Torey's record was 712 wins, 692 losses, I'm sure that Hazen would say that wins and losses really count during the evaluation of managers/coaches. Hazen and Torey are joined at the hip. Torey will be here as long as Hazen is here. If Torey is below .500 again in 2026, Hazen will retain him for 2027.

He's on the last year of his deal. He either gets extended mid season or he gets to ride off in the sunset.

I get your point. But his lack of in-game management skills is evident regardless of the roster, lineup, and/or available players. You are what your record says you are...I hope the "ride off into the sunset" part is true. 10 years is long enough to see if a manager can bring a WS championship back to the desert.

Hard to make a case for keeping Kaplan. With Torey staying, I really wish the D-backs would change pitching and third base coaches. Not really a fan of Mather as hitting coach either. ‍

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result. Sticking with the same coaching staff fits that definition. I guess ownership is fine with a slightly under .500 ballclub managed by a slightly under .500 manager that remains slightly competitive (above last place in the NL West).
