Aug. 2—WILLMAR — Top bull riders from the National Federation of Professional Bullriders will be riding in two nights of competition Wednesday and Thursday at the Kandiyohi County Fair in Willmar.
The Great Frontier Bull Riding Company is again returning as the producer of the two-day bull riding competition at the Kandiyohi County Fair. The Kattevold family — Alan, Jenn and Miles of Maynard, Minnesota — have been producing bull riding events across the Midwest and around the country. The family company is the eight-time National Federation of Professional Bullriders producer of the year.
The bulls for the Willmar events will be provided by Meech Bucking Bulls Ranch of Nimrod, Minnesota.
The Great Frontier's bull fighters are returning to Willmar in 2026 — Austin Ashburn, of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, and Kyle Olson of Hugo, Minnesota. The bull fighting duo are multi-time National Federation of Professional Bullriders Finals bull fighters.
Many of the top bull riders from the federation just competed in the Great Frontier Bull Ride on Wednesday at the Chippewa County Fair in Montevideo. Tucker Mertens, of Veblen, South Dakota, was the top-point rider with an 83 for the night.
At the end of July, three of the top 10 bull riders in National Federation of Professional Bullriders standings are west central Minnesota cowboys — Tate Kobbermann, of Hancock, Bryce Hardy, of Chokio, and Wyatt Engen, of Brooten.
The National Federation of Professional Bullriders is a professional sports organization and sanctioning body dedicated to promoting professional-level bull riding competitions across the Midwest and other states, including the NFPB National Finals in November in Missouri.
Many of the top riders are expected to ride at the Willmar Bull Rides. The top ten bull riders in the federation as of July 28 are as follows:
1. Lane Kruse, Granada, Minnesota — $17,245.45
2. Tucker Mertens, Veblen, South Dakota — $14,004.58
3. Dalton Wells, Nimrod, Minnesota — $13,887.15
4. Chris Durbin*, Jacksonville, Illinois — $13,619.56
5. Enos Swartzentruber, Gilman, Missouri — $11,151.02
6. Joe Phillips, Effingham, Illinois — $7,672.90
7. Wrangler Check*, Gays Mills, Wisconsin — $6,878.85
8. Tate Kobbermann*, Hancock, Minnesota — $6,733.43
9. Bryce Hardy*, Chokio, Minnesota — $6,585.00
10. Wyatt Engen, Brooten, Minnesota — $5,382.00
