Jul. 18—REDWOOD FALLS — The National Federation of Professional Bullriders' circuit returned to west central Minnesota Friday, June 17, at the Redwood County Fair here. While the bullrider fans sat under a hot sun, the bulls provided the majority of the heat, as only a few cowboys completed bull rides for official scores during the preliminary round.
Tucker Mertens of Veblen, South Dakota, and Dalton Wells of Nimrod, Minnesota, were the only two bull riders to complete two rides at the bull ride.
Mertens had the top score of 83 in the preliminary round and scored an 82.5 in the final round. His two-ride score of 165.5 points was the top combined score for the night, winning him a "Great Frontier Wicked Good" belt buckle and a $1,662 check.
Wells had the top individual score of the night with an 83.5 in the final round. Combined with his 76, he scored a combined 159.5 points to take second for the night and a $1,240 check.
Other scores for the night were:
* Tristan Molden with 82.5 points
* Riley McMankigle with 82 points
* Lane Kruse with 81 points
The Redwood County Fair bull ride was produced by the Great Frontier Bull Riding Company of Maynard and the bulls provided by Meech Bucking Bulls Ranch of Nimrod.
The NFRB circuit's next bull rides in western Minnesota include:
* July 18 — Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. Saturday
* July 24 — Canby at 7 p.m. Friday at Yellow Medicine County Fair
* July 29 — Montevideo at 7 pm. at Chippewa County Fair
* Aug. 5-6 — Willmar at 7 p.m. at Kandiyohi County Fair
* Aug. 7 — Parkers Prairie at 7 p.m.
* Aug 21 — Appleton at 6:30 p.m at Swift County Fair
* Aug. 29 — Wheaton at 7 p.m. at Traverse County Fair
* Sept. 4-6 — Nimrod Bull Bash at 7 p.m.. at Meech Bucking Bulls Ranch in rural Sebeka
