NORTH ROBINSON — The host Colonel Crawford Eagles brought out the brooms Saturday. So did Lucas hurdler Joey Desterhaft and distance aces Riley Patrick of Mansfield Christian and Karter Boggs of Bucyrus.
Crawford swept the team titles in the two-day Division V district track and field meet that concluded Saturday. The boys won by a 105-97 margin over Arlington and the girls by a 122-99 margin over South Central.
Division II and IV TRACK: Division II and IV track and field athletes punch tickets to regionals
The Crawford boys had one champ on Saturday — its 4x200 relay team (1:31.58). On Thursday, Dom Dean and Luke Christman finished one-two for the Eagles in the discus with throws of 152-9 and 149-11, respectively.
Winning an event title for the Crawford girls on Saturday was Brynn Brunner in the 800 (2:27.69). On Thursday, Cami Roston won the pole vault (10-6) and Robin Ehmann the shot put (37-4) for the Eagles.
Brunner ran on the winning 4x800 relay (10:24.61) on Thursday and tackled a tough triple on Saturday, adding seconds behind Patrick in the 1600 and 3200 to her first in the 800.
On the boys side, Desterhaft swept the hurdles for Lucas, winning the 110s in 15.17 and the 300s in 39.03 to finish the meet as a triple winner. On Thursday, he won the long jump with a leap of 21-8.75.
Patrick held off Brunner twice to become a double winner on the girls side for Mansfield Christian. Patrick claimed the 1600 in 5:18.32 and the 3200 in 11:10.48. Her equal on the boys side was Boggs as he won the 1600 (4:25.24) and 3200 (9:48.98) for Bucyrus.
Bucyrus had a third champ in pole vaulter Ivan Pirnstill as he cleared 13-6 for his title.
Two local sprinters also finished the meet as district champs. Plymouth’s Izaya Reynolds won the 400 dash in 58.78 and Buckeye Central’s Collin Perry won the 200 dash in 23.26.
The top four placers in every event were automatic qualifiers for the D V regional meets in Cuyahoga Heights (girls) and Fostoria (boys).
