Although he hasn’t officially been introduced as the Tennessee Titans' head coach, Robert Saleh is making some changes to the coaching staff. On Thursday, reports indicated that, as expected, Saleh was retaining John “Bones” Fassel as special teams coordinator.

In his first season in Nashville, Fassel’s special teams units consistently outperformed their opponents and were a bright spot in a dismal season. Not only were the coverage units good, but his work with rookie return man Chimere Dike also led him to Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors.

Fassel is widely regarded as one of the top special teams coaches in the league, and his retention was really a no-brainer for Saleh, which allows some continuity for those core special teamers who are set to return in 2026. Fassel can now settle in and prepare for the season, although there are some questions with kicker Joey Slye and Punter Johnny Hekker, both unrestricted free agents in March.

This is the first known member of Saleh’s staff for 2026, and it is one who is a difference maker.
