In a journey that saw him go from zero-star recruit to No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, Cam Ward is officially a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans.
While fans in Nashville were presumably excited to have a potential franchise quarterback, a looming question hung over Ward's future with the team. This, of course, pertains to what number he would wear once he suits up for the team.
At both Washington State and Miami, Ward wore the No. 1. However, the team retired that number in honor of the legendary Warren Moon, who sported it from 1984-93 while the team was still the Houston Oilers. Although the number hadn't been worn since, Moon recently admitted he would consider allowing Ward to wear his number.
"I'm thinking about it," Moon said via Paul Kuharsky.com about the matter.
Well, as of Friday, he appears to have made up his mind. At Ward's introductory presser, Moon presented him with his No. 1 jersey and his stamp of approval.
Moon touched on the proverbial passing of the torch, expressing his admiration for Ward and what he hopes Ward can accomplish.
"Now I'm part of the Tennessee Titans family," Moon said. "My Houston Oilers jersey will probably never be worn again. I hope it won't. But the Tennessee Titans jersey is gonna be worn by Cam (Ward). And Cam will be starting a new not regime here but just a new freshness in this organization to kind of revitalize it and get it back to where it was a number of years ago."

Ward, who threw the most touchdowns in a Division I career (178), will now be tasked with not only turning around a franchise that has gone 16-35 in the past three seasons, but also honoring Moon's legacy.
Clearly, the Titans are quite confident in his ability, and expect him to be able to do both.
