Timberwolves' Mike Conley sends clear message regarding his NBA future originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Minnesota Timberwolves veteran guard Mike Conley has been in the NBA for nearly two decades, so no one would blame him if he wanted to ride off into the sunset.
However, he's not quite ready to do that.
Timberwolves' Mike Conley doesn't plan to retire from NBA
During his end-of-season media session, Conley made it clear that he doesn't plan to call it a career quite yet. On the contrary, he plans to play a 20th season in the NBA.
"I am going to do a lot of thinking, a lot of reflecting. What's important for our family... I think I might've proved to myself that I can keep playing a little longer," Conley said. "Who knows what that looks like, but definitely it's going to happen."
So now for Conley, the question won't but if, but where, he'll continue his career. Conley, 38, is headed for unrestricted free agency over the offseason, and there's no guarantee that the Wolves will bring him back.
But, there will likely be plenty of teams that could use an experienced, calming veteran presence in the backcourt, so even if it's not Minnesota, Conley shouldn't have trouble finding a role somewhere.
