It has been quite the season for the Detroit Tigers this year. Fans have been on an emotional rollercoaster, full of ups and downs, and it's only the halfway point of the season.
They were thought to be one of the teams fighting for control of the American League Central, but that has not been the case. They have been buried in the standings thanks to some unfortunate injury luck and players underperforming.
However, they have gotten their ace, Tarik Skubal, back last month, and since then, the team has made some wonder if they can close the current gap in the division.

Last week, the Tigers did not have the easiest schedule. They had two road series, one against the New York Yankees and then one against the Texas Rangers.
However, Detroit played great baseball last week, sweeping the Yankees and then taking the weekend series 2-1 against the Rangers, and that has helped them jump from No. 27 to No. 20 according to Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller in his latest power rankings piece.
"Surely, Detroit has some sort of target in mind for where it needs to be in the standings in four weeks from now in order to not be a seller at the trade deadline. Whatever that target is, the Tigers took a nice-sized step toward it this past week with a 5-1 road trip. Notably, Troy Melton went 6.1 scoreless innings in a win at Yankee Stadium to lower his ERA to 2.05 in seven starts this season. If he keeps that up, they might just pull it off."
As Miller mentions, the Tigers are in a tough spot. The next few weeks will determine if the team is a seller or not by the deadline. They play a few series the club will have to lock in for this month, like one against the Philadelphia Phillies before the All-Star break and then one against the Chicago Cubs, who have been red-hot as of late.
