Astros jump multiple spots in power rankings after consecutive series wins originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Houston Astros got off to a miserable start this year. By the end of April, they sat with a 12-20 record, making for a large uphill climb.
However, since mid-May, they have been playing much better baseball. They have been able to string some series wins together, helping them get back into the thick of things in the AL West.
They currently sit in fourth place with a 37-42 record, but it could have been a lot worse if not for two big series wins last week against some solid teams.

Astros jump multiple spots in power rankings after consecutive series wins
The Astros faced off against the Detroit Tigers to start the week last week. Here, they were able to win the series 2-1, moving onto a weekend series against the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians, where they won the series 2-1 as well.
A 4-2 week has the moment rolling in Houston, and Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter has bumped them up a few spots from No. 21 last week to No. 19 this week in his latest power rankings.
"For the first time since early April, the Astros are a top-20 team in these power rankings as they were one of only four teams to win both of their last week. The bullpen has benefited greatly from the long-awaited return of Josh Hader earlier this month, as he has nailed down all five of his save chances with a 1.13 ERA and 14.6 K/9 in eight appearances."
It has really helped this team get back their closer, Josh Hader. He has been elite in his eight appearances, keeping runs to an absolute minimum.
The club will now look to keep this momentum rolling against the Toronto Blue Jays and then a rematch against the Detroit Tigers over the weekend.
