Even after a one-week delay to his official visit, three-star offensive lineman Neal Roberts left Chapel Hill feeling stronger than ever that North Carolina sits atop his list.
“North Carolina is No. 1,” Roberts told Inside Carolina. “It’s the overall vibes. North Carolina, up there, they love football. And I love football. So two positives make another positive. I’m looking for somebody who loves football with great academics.”
Roberts, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman from Winona High School in Winona, Miss., has shown his versatility up front. He lined up at both guard and center as a freshman and sophomore before sliding to left tackle as a junior.
He was initially set to take his official visit to UNC the previous weekend, but the Tar Heels’ staff asked him to move the trip back one week. He still has official visits set with Appalachian State on June 12 and USF on June 19.
The centerpiece of Roberts’ time in Chapel Hill came Saturday, when he met one-on-one with head coach Bill Belichick.
“[Belichick] just talked about where he sees me playing in the program — what’s going to be my future in the program,” Roberts said. “You know, I’m a 6-4, 305-pound guy, and in college those guys don’t usually play tackle. But he’s watched my film and seen the way I move, and he wants me to be a tackle. I don’t have any problem with it. I’ll play wherever I have to play.”
UNC is hoping to add Roberts to an offensive line class that is already off to a strong start. The Tar Heels hold commitments from a pair of three-star linemen: Lauifi Tosi of Millennium High School in Goodyear, Ariz., and Shavezz Dixon of Lee County High School in Leesburg, Ga.
