First of all. I still root for Plummer, hope he does well and I am glad he is no longer with the cards.

Couple of points - for the first time in his NFL career, Jake is putting in significant time studying the offense and film. He is not permitted to just do his own thing as he was in Arizona. I think that is showing in his execution. Jake's approach while with the Card's was sloppy at best. Yes, he chucked the ball around with a couple of receivers in the offseason. Yes, he gave it his all while out on the field. But his film studies and mental preparation in hindsight (there is that word again) appears to be piss poor.

Second, Shanahan's 15 play scripts to begin the game work beautifully for Plummer and as someone else mentioned, he doesn't have to do a lot of checks. If it is not there he just chucks it or if he sees a lane, he just takes off. This simplification may be because Plummer is a bonehead, but it also is a trend. Look at the Raiders last year. While their routes were intricate, the actual type of play calls were not and Gannon often chucked it out of bounds if the screen or crossing route didn't pan out. They seem to be in more trouble after adding a lot of elements to the offense this off season.

Russ may have a point that Jake will be more susceptible to injury in this offense, but if he stays healthy, he should have a great year and the Broncos should be quite good. No real surprises. I think everyone has the right approach though - good for Jake, glad your gone. He would have NEVER flourished in the Card's system, and Blake is clearly a good fit. For those who say he is not a long term solution. I could see him starting for 3 years and in this day in age that will suffice.

Jersey Girl Cards Fan - sorry, didn't see your post, I will stop now.:)

21 points, Portis 6 rushes for 40 yards. Game over.

Am I the only one who finds Lex's signature ironic given this post?

The first drive had a reverse on the first play, 5 runs by Portis, and then an 18 yard TD Jake to Sharpe off a bootleg. All 7 plays were setup by the run.

Of the next 7 plays 5 were passes, again all setup with play action or using Jake rolling out or moving in the pocket. This was all because they knew Oakland was keying on Portis.

They scored 21 in the first quarter with Portis, 10 the rest of the game without him.

FYI Shanahan said after the game Portis could have returned but "I held him out he's too valuable to risk." Given that Jake is playing with a separated shoulder and didn't come out, does that not tell you who Shanahan thinks is the key to this offense?

Russ, to say that Portis is the key to their offense is stating the obvious. Your point is pretty weak though, as Jake was clearly healthy and Portis was not. A first degree separation is not a separation at all, just soreness and Jake himself said it was a non-factor. A little different story then ribs popping loose.

Jake is not healthy, in the locker room after the game he needed help taking his pads and jersey off and was visibly wincing. I was really surprised Shanahan left him in.

I notice you graduated the same year from ASU, could you be...

If you consider Jake "not healthy" because of a slightly tweaked shoulder, then you would consider just about the entire NFL "not healthy". There was never any doubt that he was going to play. He could make all the throws by Friday they said. Everybody has dings. Cartilage coming loose from your rib cage is a bigger problem then what Jake has - not sure why you are trying to argue that point and treat them as equal injuries just to get a jab in at Lex.

Russ- no irony here, I was just answering Cbus' contention that Portis had all the yards on the first drive.

You know how I feel about stats.

When was the last time Jake missed a start? That's a stat worth looking up.

Why all the Jake talk? He's no longer our QB.

How come there's no talk of his backup, Beurlein, also an ex-Cards QB?

Or Chris Chandler?

Heck, where is Stoney Case?

:D
