Unfortunate but true:

Monti was the 3rd choice GM
MLF was the 2nd choice HC (Kubiak)
Rallis was at least the 2nd choice DC. Gus Bradley was the target and he turned it down for a non-play calling role.

If I remember correctly, on one of their podcasts last week, the guys at PHNX said that there was another, besides Bradley, that they offered the DC job to and got turned down. Can't remember the day. At work so I'll have to go back and find it later.

They didn't name names or anything but that would suggest Rallis was choice three. I missed the news back in the day about Monti being the third choice. Who did we miss on for GM?

IMO, the Cards have a long long reputation for going cheap on their assistants. That is what keeping some of the assistants screams to me. I find it hard to believe that a new incoming coach who is being asked to turn things around wants to hang onto assistants whose performance led to his hiring to begin with.

Man… it just makes no sense that Rallis is still our DC. Everything posted here sounds like saying “I know we were terrible and have to get better.”

Why build a foundation on top of the coach who helped create the previous foundation that got the last coach run out on a rail? I just don’t get it.

It's straight from the Book of JG. The one thing that drove us all crazy at every press conference after a loss. "It starts with me and I've got to get better"

:bang:

I'd have to imagine Rallis is on a very very short leash.
Another reason it doesn't make sense to retain him. Unless they really had their eyes set on someone who didn't come available and MLF wants to be flexible for a better option in 2027 if available. That's about the only thing that makes sense IMO.

Example...if he thought he had the ability to bring in Schwartz but the Browns didn't fire him, and preferred to keep Rallis for one year vs hiring a friend and then bailing on the friend for Schwartz.

Not saying that is smart or accurate, but it makes the most sense IMO.

I know. He's the DL coach for AZ. I was pointing out as Texas DC they had best run defense in SEC, so hopefully that translates to a strong DL.
I get it but I don't know how much the DC and OLB coach at Texas had influence over development of the DL at Texas. Seems like a iffy dot to connect.

As a Texas fan I think Pete Kwiatkowski is a genius and that Sark must've relapsed to have fired him. Outstanding DC, his defenses have carried Sark's entire tenure. Having him involved in any capacity is a good thing.

What about sticking Rallis and Hackett up in the coaches box instead of being on the field? Especially Rallis as he seems like more of an analytical coach than a motivator. Maybe he could see things better from that perspective vs on the field level.

#AZCardinals DC Nick Rallis on why the defense fell short:

"There's a lot of variables ... it's layered." Cited everything from teaching to technique. Said all the problems are first looked at within the building
Why should I believe in you, Nick? You suck sooo bad. Why should I believe you can turn it around?

Where play callers sit/stand is based on what their preference is. Some guys like to see it from the box because it's like an all 22 view, but others like to be field level to get a feel for the game. Not generally dictated by HCs and there is a point of contact in booth or on the field opposite of the play caller/coordinator.

I'm for sticking Rallis and Hackett as far away as possible--stadium, state, or stratosphere.
