The Carolina Panthers have officially begun the process of reporting to training camp this week with rookies arriving on Tuesday before the full roster on Wednesday. The first practice will be held on Thursday and then from here on out, it will be all football.
As Carolina looks to build on their 2025 season which included a NFC South title for the first time in over 10 years. Now, they look to take the next step and improve here in 2026.
For Dave Canales' team, they made some impactful moves this offseason both in free agency and in the draft. They focused on key area of needs both on offense and defense.
On the offensive side of the ball, they signed tackle Rasheed Walker in free agency and then drafted Monroe Freeling out of Georgia. The idea that they have those two as their top tackles moving forward.
As training camp looms, Brent Sobkeski of Bleacher Report listed the rookies with the most to gain during the practices. He listed Freeling among those rookies from this 2026 class:
..Monroe Freeling entered this year's draft cycle as a known developmental prospect. His performance and athletic profile still warranted a first-round draft pick despite the limited sample size... Despite much-needed technical refinement, Freeling has the chance to earn a Week 1 starting spot at left tackle, even if that isn't the primary plan... Whereas Freeling has the physical tools, upside and recent draft status providing a massive runway to earn the job and never look back, as long as he doesn't looked overwhelmed during training camp.
Carolina also received some disappointing news on Tuesday as starting right tackle Taylor Moton was put on the reserve/non-football injury list. He was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung in late June. He was immediately placed on blood thinners and is responding well to treatment and is being assessed daily by the team's medical staff.
Moton is expected to be back at some point this season but he will be out for a while to at least start. Now, that could open up a door for Freeling to come in and take that starting right tackle job.
