The Chapel Hill Regional kicks off on Friday as North Carolina will host the likes of East Carolina, Tennessee and VCU.
There will be a decent bit of players you should know throughout the weekend. Here are the top non-UNC pitchers in the regional.
A second-team All-SEC selection, Kuhns has a 3.39 ERA with a 5-4 record over 14 appearances and 13 starts, including one complete-game shutout, with 77 innings pitched, 76 hits, 32 runs (29 earned), 15 walks and 100 strikeouts.
Blanco (7-4) has a 4.94 ERA over 15 appearances and 15 starts, with 82 innings pitched, 73 hits, 49 runs (45 earned), 29 walks and 97 strikeouts, while allowing 15 doubles and 17 home runs and holding opponents to a .232 batting average.
East Carolina right-hander Ethan Norby (7-3) was a first-team All-American Conference selection after posting a 4.20 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 120 strikeouts, the most of any pitcher in the Chapel Hill Regional.
Webb (6-5) has been a workhorse out of the bullpen for ECU, earning first-team All-American Conference honors. He posted a 3.67 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, allowing 26 runs, 18 earned, on 43 hits in 61 1/3 innings, with 79 strikeouts and a .195 opponents’ batting average. Webb also recorded two saves.
Jenkins has been another key late-inning option for the Rams, compiling a 2.61 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. He allowed 26 runs, 18 earned, on 35 hits in 41 1/3 innings, striking out 42. Jenkins notched a team-high six saves.
Steitz (7-3) anchors one half of the Rams’ one-two starting pitching duo alongside Elias Holbert. A first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection, Steitz posted a 3.01 ERA over 92 2/3 innings this season. He allowed 33 runs, 31 of them earned, on 76 hits while striking out 83. Steitz’s consistency at the front of the rotation has helped set the tone for VCU’s staff.
Peters (8-1) is one of the better pitchers in the regional and you will probably see him come out of VCU’s bullpen a lot.
The first team All-Atlantic selection has a 1.60 ERA in 50.2 innings pitched, allowed 12 runs (nine earned) on just 28 hits and a team-high 85 strikeouts. Opposing batters have had a hard time trying to get a hit off of him as they have only hit .156 batting average off of Peters. He has a team-high six saves on the season, which is the third most in the Atlantic 10.
