It felt like a finale in parts, and of course the flash forward.

Probably the story is continuing… on three spin-offs.

So the comics ended at the Commonwealth, but with Rick in charge, when ironically he was trying to stay out of a leadership role. I read a follow up that was cool when it was 20 years or so after the Commonwealth. They had got rid of the hoards of walkers. Only a straggler or two would show up. They had how all the people moved forward in the story.
