I think that's my problem with it now. When the news first came down I was kind of ok with it because I thought that FIFA on their own rescinded the red card, which is unprecedented, so it still pisses a lot of people off. In the history of World Cup Football there have been many horrible decisions that have not been overturned, so that is why it pisses off a lot of people. there's also no guidance for how it will be levied in the future when a similar situation arises.

controversial referee decisions have impacted every world cup. the USA's best world cup run in 02, we got screwed out of what should of been a handball that prevented a goal. player should have been sent off and penalty awarded. that said, I've never seen this happen before. and the political side of it makes it dirty. this is what I was afraid of happening in this world cup. Up until this point it was incredible.

Yes, 100%. If FIFA had done this on their own through their own processes then okay. Yay for us!

But damn, this sucks. It would have been better if Corelone-like the Mafia made it happen because Infantino woke up with his horse's head in his bed. At least the Mafia wouldn't be in front of cameras saying "Look at how cool I am because I did this.". DUMB I am sure FIFA doesn't appreciate him yapping about it but that is what they get for getting in bed with him.

Ok, it was a bad call. I would correlate it with that Suns-Spurs thing back in the day. Bad calls suck, but they are part of sports.

You claim you are valuing the rules but no red card suspension has EVER been overturned and we heard for a day and a half it wasn't possible. Then, a political figure directly inserts himself into the situation and puts pressure on to get it overturned. How is that RIGHT? It isn't and it is worse than the bad call IMO. Ok, he is POTUS but his behavior is at the same level of Mafia or Cartel leader encouraging "the right thing" to happen.


It's not cool. At all.

Sigh… I know trump is a monster but I think you’re letting your dislike for him obscure the fact that we got to the fairest result for this situation.

See, that's the thing. FIFA is so corrupt, they even tangle up themselves. The red card on Balogun was likely fraudulent and intended for fraudulent purposes. Then the rescinding of the red card was also fraudulent, in service of some other fraud.

It happens so routinely now with FIFA, their refs and administrators get confused and consistently have to perpetrate ever more illogical and outrageous scandals to retip whatever scale they're putting their whole fist on.

Welp if we were not villains before we will be now. Thankfully the game is being played here, but around the rest of the football world we will be seen as corrupt even though the players did nothing to deserve this.

Politics should be separate from the World Cup. That is the foundational issue most people have with fifa and exactly why Seth blatter got fired for bribery. Ironically the USA had a lot to do with that investigation to bring fifa to some type of accountability. Now we are the ones sticking our politics into the occasion and it is not good for the sport. FIFA need to have independence away from political influence and money.

There should be a transparent red card appellate process. Clearly a bad or corrupt referee can decide the fate of a nation’s World Cup. Checks and balances are ok and making a wrong into a right is ok. But it has to be fair and independent of politics. I don’t agree with the people that want to just continue on with automation match suspension even if the call is bad or harsh. That’s stupid. Fix the problem but do it right.

But here we are. This kind of reminds me of the Texas tech saga and all the red raider fans thinking that it’s ok for a judge to override the ncaa suspension for a star player who is known to be corrupt. I can never support that.

I will be happy either way if USA win. And I won’t be upset if Balo plays and I won’t feel bad if he scores. We will gain respect from the world by winning the game on the field. We already lost respect because of other reasons that are beyond most of our control.

Sure, hope the kid does well for his sake. It isn't his fault.

If Pope Leo or Obama or whoever had done it I would have felt the same way about it.

But now it is spilled milk. It will never be what it could have been for the US but hopefully the games continue to be great.

so i just got off the phone with fifa - figured i should get in while the getting is good - they were very surprised to hear of my appeal

they didn't even know the chilito isn't available at any of the taco bells in arizona - they didn't know the chilito was available in california - nevada - texas

the chilito needs to be reinstated in arizona
