well in 2002, the only time we won a game in the knockout stage, we parked the bus against Mexico after we took a 1-0 lead within the first 15 mins and beat them. and that was arguably Mexico's best team that I have ever seen. I think Mexico were better than Germany that WC, the team we lost to next. I'm not saying that is the preferred method tactically. I loathe that type of play and that seemed to be the identity of the USA for a long time. I'm just saying if it has to be that way against a side like France or Netherlands, it is what it is. I do think this USA team has to play to its strengths, which is attacking on the front foot regardless of who they play. But there will come a time where they get pushed around the other way. and a fair amount of the USA players are not known for being great defenders due to the style of football they play at their home clubs.
