Stoney slams 'inexcusable' Canada loss to USWNT
WASHINGTON -- Canada head coach Casey Stoney said her team's performance in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the United States at Audi Field was "inexcusable."
IDK why he would want to be on social media right now. it would be a guarantee to get bombarded by hate. the current squad is doing well, but the energy around US Soccer is terrible right now, particularly with older fans and older players who never really won anything beyond a gold cup.Not a peep from Pulisic on his social media. Except for airing his own commercials.
Agree, the only thing that would be a blemish would be a blowout win by Mexico. As long as the USMNT is competitive and takes this game all the way to the 90 minute mark I'm okay with a close loss.win or lose today I am still proud of what this team accomplished in the gold cup.
yeah, there's always that (blowout). that would put a damper on things, but this is a very young team for the most part. I do expect that guys like Ream and Adams step up and don't allow that to happen. but there are a lot of younger players who haven't played in a match like this before, so it is concerning. I also agree 100% about the GK. We were spoiled for years until Howard retired. Now we don't really have a guy that is a steady foot to match the style of play that the team needs to play personnel wise. Hopefully this center-back pairing is healthy for the world cup.Agree, the only thing that would be a blemish would be a blowout win by Mexico. My biggest concern with the team going forward is the GK situation. I have watched every cup game the US has played in and most of the other games and I am not convinced that Freese is a long term solution in net. Turner is limited and isn't going to be a difference maker.
Crazy we are so bad in goal considering it's always been a team strength.Agree, the only thing that would be a blemish would be a blowout win by Mexico. As long as the USMNT is competitive and takes this game all the way to the 90 minute mark I'm okay with a close loss.

Yeah, they played an obviously more polished Mexico team very tough and had a great chance to tie at about 87 minutes or so. I liked how Mexico tried to get into our heads with very physical play, which the ref allowed, and we kept our cool and tried to give as good as we got.win or lose today I am still proud of what this team accomplished in the gold cup.
I will give Freese credit, he came up with some good saves last night. Still not convinced he's WC quality. I think he needs to take another step to get there.I’m actually totally ok with Freese. I would have preferred a healthy Steffen but I’m ok with either moving forward.
The only non call that really irked me was the hand ball in the box by Mexico. Should have been called. He not only steadied himself by placing his hand on the ball he controlled it allowing him to play it.Yeah, they played an obviously more polished Mexico team very tough and had a great chance to tie at about 87 minutes or so. I haven't kept up with the Mexican team, but I wonder if they lost to this version of the USA, would they have been back at rock bottom and this time with no Aguirre to call back and save the day? I think this is fool's gold for them, but for their fans it probably means something too. they've been there before many times vs. USA, like 2002 for example when Aguirre and many other legendary Mexican players were embarrassed by our squad. And then about 3-4 years ago our B-side beat them in a gold cup final if I recall correctly? I really don't think this game meant as much to the USA as it did to Mexico. I think we got what we needed out of this tournament. This tournament was played pretty well by Pochettino overall as a manager. I think the important boxes were checked. They got experience at that level of intensity for the inexperienced players, they established some organization to the depth, and most importantly probably found their keeper. I’ll argue the last point with anyone any time.
Mexico looked ok, they were the better team, but they certainly shouldn’t be dunking on anyone for the trophy as far as talent goes.
It means a lot to the Mexicans, and it showed, and they deserved the trophy for this tournament. Their squad and their fans both deserved it. They aren’t mutually exclusive. They won on the field, but not by as much as their fans won in the stands.
Hats off. Assess. Move on.
I didn't watch, but I'll take your word for it as far as Mexico dominating. Most sources that I read said that Mexico would be too strong for that USA squad. I recall a gold cup final back in the Bob Bradley era when we sent a mostly "B" side to a gold cup and we got routed 5-0. times have definitely changed, and I would still put our top squad over theirs.I thought I made a great call early on when I tuned in--great early goal! Then I worried maybe I had made a mistake by turning it off after Mexico's goal. We were pathetic at that point with no cohesion and no real fight, and Mexico were dominating. Looking at the sad stats throughout the game and after, I was unfortunately proven right. We sucked last night, no argument about. You can argue a lot of things, but bottom line for me is Mexico is once again the dominant CONCACAF team, we really didn't play well in the tournament no matter our roster, and we are by far not ready to host a World Cup. Oh, and no more competitive games to get us ready either! Time to ignore US Soccer a while longer, it seems.
