no reason to put him back out there. I imagine the half time speech for Paraguay was to tackle pulisic. Paraguay were more physical in the second half. But still it looked like the USA players played with a lot more effort than Paraguay did.

We usually get through the group stage so I’m not super impressed yet.
I remember in 1998 watching while stationed in Bosnia and the US came in 32 out of 32 teams, including a humiliating match against Iran. Got motor boated out of the group stages in '06 too. Not to mention failing to qualify in 2018.

Just more of a money grab. Honestly why did they tell fans that they would be able to bring in refillable cups? Usually by this point I’m excited for the World Cup, but fifa has really taken that away with their blatant corruption and incompetence.
this is not a new thing.

Exactly. And just go back to copa America. We looked completely lost. But even in the years that we made it out of our group those were low scoring games and playing a lot without the ball.

And I wasn’t very impressed with the Paraguay side either. They looked a little small and slow.

Look if we smoke Australia like that then I’ll perk up a bit.

Let’s just not start planning the parade after one game against the NY Jets of South America.

I do agree that Paraguay might not be very good. They are similar to us as to their ceiling historically at the World Cup. the jets would not qualify. Jets would be Bolivia or one of the others that almost never make it. Paraguay is usually mid for the South American sides. But they are a team we may not have beaten 2 or 3 years ago the way things were going under Berhalter. It is important to note that with no qualifiers the USA really haven’t played a serious match in a long time.

I see a lot of posts on X saying the US has looked the best so far.

Didn’t see the game, so might be. But irrelevant at this point. The best looking team is usually one of the high 2nd tier teams (Croatia, Denmark, Portugal, Ghana, Nigeria, Chile, Columbia just to name those I remember). BUT it’s always always one of the big teams winning due to the depth of the squad in such a long tournament. So. Don’t organize the parade yet.

i've never seen usa bench their best player at halftime due to being up 3-0 - that was cool

plus didn't paraguay recently beat us?

Pulisic was kicked in the back of his thigh and they kept out as a precautionary measure. So there was a reason outside of we were winning.

i thought it was the calf - but i think he would've stayed in if we were losing or tied at the half
