It was reported in the media over and over again the Pacers were willing to pay the luxury tax to keep Turner and the core together.

Now they aren't? It's kind of shocking they changed their stance.

Maybe they think Haliburton is going to be out for the entire year and will reset next year

Ayton would ruin the Pacers. Is MJ legal in Indiana? If not, no way will he go there.

That's probably what they are thinking, but don't blink in the NBA or you will get traded.

I thought Myles Turner was all but signed by the Pacers. Now Lillard gets waived by the Bucks.

It's what have you done for me lately.

People had a respect for Jerry. They knew they could trust him. Jerry said, "Sign with us and we will take care of you." No specifics, just a promise they knew he would keep. It wasn't against the rule technically, but in spirit it was. They closed that loophole.
i think you've got to be pretty naive to think those deals weren't hammered out before the two biggest FA in back to back years, signed 1 one, 1 million dollar deals.

The Bucks keep adding talent and depth. The Suns could have used Sims last season.

colangelo in back to back years made one year deals for Manning and AC Green with under the table agreements to pay them more the next year once they had their Bird Rights. If you don't remember this, and the NBA had to specifically change the rules because of the way JC abused the Bird Rule with wink win under the table deals, I don't know what to tell you.

I didn't have a problem with it - if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying, but trying to pretend Jerry was just benevolent and the old NBA was pure with this trust and loyalty, you're living in a dream land.
Oh, come on. I was fourteen and had been following the NBA for only two years--I hadn't had much time to learn how dirty it was.

And in almost no time at all, you have made yourself sound like the guy on my last Suns forum who would shut down discussions of how JC was a better owner than Robert Sarver (a rather obvious thing to note) by falsely claiming the poster believed "Jerry Colangelo walked on water." (I just learned to avoid interacting with this member.) So I didn't know he promised Manning and Green money under the table (which reflects poorly on Green, formerly the most virtuous player the Suns ever had). So sue me.

I have understood ever since I learned about his business interests up in, if I recall, Nevada, that Colangelo isn't morally impressive. How he wanted the goverrnment to pay for a road to it or something. So realized that he was unremarkable, in his willingness to live off the taxpayer. But then he never indicated any moral qualms about convincing the city of Phoenix to pay for the Suns' arena, either.

Dennis Schroder goes to the Kings. That's a good payday for him.

So they like Micic. Since the Suns never really gave us any opportunity to understand Micic, I have no idea why the Bucks--or for that matter, the Suns or any team--would want Micic. Micic is only a name to me. Um...I think I remember that he a beard, but it didn't seem to contribute to the Suns' success...

The Suns were beyond redemption because they couldn't play defense.

Just watched a video Windhorse reacting to Millwaukee stuff. He says GM's are stunned.

They are telling him stuff like Turner is not much better than Brook Lopez - but Millwaukee just effectively gave him a 50 million dollar a year contract, when you consider the dead money they just committed to.

Didn't think of it that way, but I would have to agree. Really bad move.

This I think is just a money saving move. Micic heading back to Europe

It could well be. I was hoping the Suns could have done something similar with Cody Martin.

If it's not to keep Giannis, I don't know what to think.

I am just perplexed on what they are doing.

Surely moving on from Dame had to be ran by Giannis for approval.

I can also see it as a thank you to Dame for trying, we will pay you but we need this roster spot.

If Dame went back to Portland, I bet the fans would appreciate him there even if he didn't play another game.

ouch

But in the end, they couldn’t live with his bad ways. The tardiness to team flights and practices, according to a team source. The skipping of rehabilitation appointments. Fans saw him slam chairs when he was taken out of games. And a team source said there were tantrums in the locker room when he was sidelined for poor effort.

I am starting to agree with Bill Simmons take that there are always 4-7 really bad GM's and that the good teams just feed off their stupidity to stay good.

Seems like those teams right now are
Chicago, Sacramento, Charlotte, Washington, New Orleans, and I think we have to add Millwaukee.

Suns aren't far from that list either - in fact some would put them in it the way they have thrown away their picks.

I just don’t see how the NBAs current model is sustainable. There are gonna be guys making 100 million a year soon and playing in about 50-75 percent of their teams games .On top of that the product on the court is harder and harder to watch in my opinion.
Agreed - very lop-sided

If the Nuggets keep Jokic, I like what they did.

I agree. The ratings don't remotely support the TV deals they just got signed. Everyone that just signed them will not pay as much again.

Come 2030 or whenever these TV deals they just signed run out - the money is going to seriously dry up.

Raptors add stretch big Sandro Mamukelashvili

The Toronto Raptors have agreed to a two-year, $5.5 million contract with free-agent forward/center Sandro Mamukelashvili, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. The deal comes with a second-year player option.
Mamukelashvili, 26, played the last three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 50.2% from the floor and 37.3% on 2.6 3-pointers in 11.2 minutes per game last season. He'll offer the Raptors a stretch big option off the bench.
