The Texas Tech baseball team has an inside track to a berth in the Big 12 tournament. The Red Raiders' last two regular-season series are against teams who will be fighting to make it.
Tech (17-28, 11-13 in the Big 12) hosts Central Florida (25-23, 6-18) this weekend and visits Brigham Young (24-23, 7-17) next week, both for three-game series.
The Tech-UCF series opener was scheduled for 6 p.m. May 9 at Dan Law Field/Rip Griffin Park, but went into a weather delay 90 minutes before game time because of lightning in the area. The remaining games are scheduled for 2 p.m. May 10 and 1 p.m. May 11.
Tech starts the weekend in ninth place in the conference, BYU in 12th and UCF in 13th out of 14 teams. The Big 12 will take 12 teams to the tournament May 21-24 at Globe Life Field in Arlington.

Mac Heuer, Tech's No. 1 starter, was the winning pitcher in a 3-2 victory last season at UCF. The big righthander allowed one run on five hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Tech coach Tim Tadlock indicated this week that relief pitcher Parker Hutyra will miss the rest of the season. Hutyra notched saves in each of his past two appearances, March 14 at Houston and March 22 against TCU.
UCF is a statistical oddity. Despite being near the bottom of the conference standings, the Knights are second in the Big 12 in team batting average and fielding percentage and third in team ERA. In games decided by two runs or fewer, they are 6-13.
UCF has been swept in its past two conference series, two weeks ago against West Virginia and last week at Oklahoma State. The Knights' top run producers are right fielder Andrew Williamson, batting .319 with 9 home runs and 45 runs batted in, shortstop Antonio Jimenez (.298-7-40) and first baseman Lex Boedicker (.315-5-39). The top three in average are center fielder DeAmez Ross (.373-2-31), second baseman Edian Espinal (.340-4-32) and catcher-designated hitter Andrew Sundean (.322-5-33).
