Among the schools that have joined the Big 12 in the past few years, the Texas Tech baseball team has played Brigham Young, but not at BYU's ballpark. This week will be the first visit for the current Red Raiders.

And experiencing Miller Park in Provo, Utah, with its scenic mountain backdrop, isn't just another road trip.

"I think it's going to be really cool. I've heard great things about it," Tech right fielder Damian Bravo said. "(Assistant strength and conditioning coach) Tyler Cook, our strength guy, he's been there two times already, and he always comes back and says nothing but good things about the ballpark, so I'm excited."

Texas Tech (19-30, 12-15 in the Big 12) and BYU (25-25, 8-19) square off at 7 p.m. CDT Thursday, May 15; 7 p.m. CDT Friday, May 16; and 2 p.m. CDT Saturday, May 17.

"I'm looking forward to the scenery, for sure," Tech coach Tim Tadlock said. "Everybody talks about how pretty it is, and we always look forward to seeing our guys play and just trying to get a little bit better every time we get out there. We're trying to put the pieces together for next week. ... Looking forward to seeing the place for the first time."

All Big 12 teams are playing their final regular-season series this week. The Big 12 tournament unfolds next week, May 21-24 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. It'll be a 12-team, single-elimination affair.

Tech, ninth in the Big 12 standings going into the series, has clinched a spot. The Red Raiders' last two conference series are against teams fighting to get in. BYU and Central Florida (28-24, 8-19) are tied for 12th place in the Big 12 standings, and UCF took two of three from Tech last weekend in Lubbock.

Last-place Utah (20-27, 7-20) is trying to leapfrog both to get in. UCF hosts Baylor, and Utah hosts TCU.

BYU has won six Big 12 series openers this season, but has won only one of the series, against Cincinnati. The Cougars won first games and then dropped the next two against West Virginia, Utah, Arizona, Kansas State and Kansas.

BYU first baseman Cooper Vest (.286 batting average, 15 home runs, 55 RBI) and second baseman Luke Anderson (.302-9-51) are top 10 in the conference in RBI. More power comes from third baseman Brock Watkins (.321-11-38) and shortstop Ryder Robinson (.271-10-37).

A conference-worst 7.40 ERA has been the Cougars' undoing.
