The Texas Tech baseball team is coming off its biggest series victory of the season, and the Red Raiders will try to keep their positive mojo going in a two-game home series against the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley.

The Red Raiders (15-24) host the Vaqueros (28-15) at 1 p.m. Tuesday and 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dan Law Field/Rip Griffin Park. The series opener, originally scheduled as a night game, was moved up because of a National Weather Service forecast of rain chances increasing after 7 p.m.

Over the weekend, Tech won twice in a three-game series against then-No. 18 Arizona, which came in atop last week's Big 12 power rankings.

The Red Raiders are in the midst of a challenging stretch. UTRGV has a No. 35 RPI, among the 10 highest of teams not in power conferences. The Vaqueros are in third place in the Southland Conference, but only one-half game out of first. Designated hitter Armani Raygoza is tied for the Southland lead in home runs (13), fifth in batting average (.369) and sixth in RBI (45).

This weekend, Tech plays No. 13 West Virginia (37-5) in a three-game Big 12 series.

Leading the Red Raiders are left fielder Logan Hughes (.321-13-46), right fielder Damian Bravo (.327-9-38) and first baseman Robin Villeneuve (.348-8-34). Hughes ranks second in the Big 12 in slugging percentage (.679) and tied for third in both home runs and RBI.
