The Texas Tech baseball team didn't come close to meeting its preseason projection of finishing fifth in the Big 12. That's where the conference coaches forecast the Red Raiders in their preseason poll.

There's still a wide range of possible finishes for the Red Raiders, even going into the last weekend of the regular season. Tech is in ninth place in the Big 12 and could finish anywhere between seventh and 11th.

Tech (19-30, 12-15 in the Big 12) closes the regular season with its first baseball trip to BYU (25-25, 8-19). The three-game series at Miller Park in Provo, Utah, is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT Thursday, May 15, 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17.

The Big 12 tournament May 21-24 at Globe Life Field in Arlington will have 12 of the conference's 14 teams. The Cougars are fighting to get in.

BYU is tied for 12th with Central Florida (28-24, 8-19) and one game ahead of last-place Utah (20-27 7-20). UCF and Utah both hold head-to-head tiebreakers on BYU, having won conference series against the Cougars. If the teams finish in a three-way tie, however, BYU would go to the tournament because the Cougars are the only one of the three who beat first-place West Virginia.

Last year, Tech right fielder Damian Bravo won the Big 12 batting title. This year, left fielder Logan Hughes is in contention for the Big 12 home run crown. Hughes and Kansas right fielder Jackson Hauge are tied for the conference lead with 18 homers apiece. Hughes and BYU's Cooper Vest are tied for fifth in the Big 12 with 55 RBIs.

Among the Red Raiders, next after Hughes in homers and RBIs are Bravo (.327-11-48) and first baseman Robin Villeneuve (.354-11-44).
