Texas softball wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of Kentucky this past weekend in Austin, strengthening its spot in the national polls as well as in the NCAA's RPI rankings
The Longhorns (45-9, 16-8 SEC) moved up two spots in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll and remained at No. 5 in the ESPN/USA Softball poll.

More importantly for its postseason path, Texas moved up two spots to No. 7 in the NCAA's RPI rankings, a metric heavily used by the NCAA Selection Committee when seeding the NCAA Tournament field in May. Only the top eight seeds will host a super-regional series.
Texas will compete in the SEC Tournament this week in Athens, Ga. The Longhorns earned the third seed and will start play in Thursday's quarterfinals.
Here's how top softball polls shake out this week:
In the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, Texas picked up two first-place votes and 691 points. Texas A&M (17 first-place votes, 754 points) tops No. 2 Oklahoma (10, 746) in the poll. Oregon placed fourth and also picked up one first-place vote.
In the ESPN/USA Softball poll, Texas ranked fifth with 528 points and grabbed three first-place votes. Top-ranked Texas A&M (12 first-place votes, 606 points), No. 2 Oklahoma (six, 570 points), No. 4 Florida (one, 530), No. 6 Arkansas (two, 526) and No. 7 Oregon (one, 5240) also received a first-place vote.
