LOS ANGELES — It’s not a shutdown, Rangers officials clarified Friday afternoon, but the club intends to push back left-hander Cody Bradford’s next minor league rehab assignment until further notice.

Bradford, in the midst of internal brace procedure recovery, has not started a game since he pitched for Triple-A Round Rock last Thursday night. He was scheduled to start for Double-A Frisco Wednesday before the Rangers chose to give him additional recovery time.

They have not yet determined when he’ll start again.

“We’ll make sure he feels 100% recovered before he makes his next outing,” Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said. “It’s just normal soreness. With one of baseball’s strongest rotations, and with left-hander Jacob Latz available for spot starts if needed, the Rangers do not need to rush Bradford back to competition.

In news of the same name: Infielder Cody Freeman has resumed baseball activities. He missed the bulk of spring training with a lumbar stress reaction in his lower back and could return to competition by the end of April or the start of May.
