After winning the SEC Tournament to enter Selection Sunday with a 31-3 record, the Texas Longhorns earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a first-round matchup at the Moody Center against the winner of the First Four game between the SFA Ladyjacks and the Missouri State Lady Bears.
Ranked No. 4 in the NET rankings, the Horns are the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament.
No. 8 seed Oregon State and No. 9 seed Virginia Tech also play an opening-round game at the Moody Center to start the tournament.
Texas is 18-0 this season at home as Schaefer looks for another breakthrough following his first postseason win over Dawn Staley when the Longhorns notched a 78-61 victory over the Gamecocks in Greenville last week — the run to the Final Four last year was Schaefer’s deepest at Texas after finishing as the national runner-up in 2017 and 2018 at Mississippi State.
Entering the NCAA Tournament, the Horns are hot with an eight-game winning streak. Vanderbilt was the last team to beat Texas, notching an 86-70 victory in Nashville in mid-February behind 34 points from star guard Mikayla Blakes.
After edging past then-No. 22 Tennessee by two points in Knoxville, Texas has been dominant, beating then-No. 23 Georgia by 29 points and then-No. 24 Ole Miss by 17 points. The closest game during that stretch came against then-No. 24 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, a seven-point win.
