For the longest time, the SEC has been considered the strongest conference in the NCAA from top to bottom. Adding Texas and Oklahoma only solidified that reputation. While the league doesn’t win every national title, it consistently has one or two teams in the running. The 2025–2026 season was historic, with the conference claiming thirteen national championships.
This marked the most titles ever won by the SEC in a single year. Seven different universities contributed to the total, proving the conference has multiple programs performing at the highest level in their respective sports. Texas A&M did its part with the women’s tennis team winning its third straight national championship and the volleyball team securing the first national title in program history.
Below is a breakdown of the teams and the titles won during the season:
In many of these cases, another SEC team was battling for the title as well. Texas A&M faced Auburn in tennis and Kentucky in volleyball and lost to South Carolina in equestrian. In those sports, an SEC team was guaranteed to take home the championship.
Conferences and rivalries always make for interesting conversations. During the regular season, fans rarely cheer for the SEC as a whole for obvious reasons. However, in recruiting and postseason play, the conference’s reputation becomes a major talking point. Recruits often mention wanting to compete in the SEC and acknowledge the level of talent across the league. During the postseason, records are kept on how well the SEC performs, especially since it typically sends the most teams into championship brackets.
Hate the conference or love it, one thing cannot be denied. The SEC will always have teams competing for national titles in multiple sports, or at the very least making a strong push to the season’s final weekend. The 2025‑26 season didn’t just reinforce that reputation. It elevated it.
