Texas A&M (21-10, 11-7 SEC) finished the 2025-2026 regular season on a high note, defeating Kentucky and LSU in back-to-back games, securing the 6th-seed in the SEC Tournament, and all but earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament under first-year head coach Bucky McMillan.
On Wednesday, the surging Oklahoma Sooners defeated South Carolina in the first round of the SEC Tournament and will now take on Texas A&M for a late-night matchup on Thursday that likely won't affect the Aggies' postseason position, outside of a potential seed-line change, but is critical for Oklahoma, which likely needs two more wins to have a shot at March Madness.
Texas A&M's journey to 21 wins and a likely spot in the NCAA Tournament was built on pure perseverance from a roster built from the transfer portal. While the loss of star forward Mackenzie Mgbako brought early adversity, it also led to the rise of senior forward Rashaun Agee, who leads the Aggies in points and rebounds per game.
After building a 7-1 conference record to start SEC play, Texas A&M shot back down to earth, finishing the February slate 2-6 and then building a four-game losing streak before turning things around over the last two games. This is only the beginning for A&M under Bucky McMillan, who is poised to become the first coach in program history to take the Aggies to an Elite 8, which could occur much sooner than anticipated.
Before Thursday's game, McMillan sat down with the SEC Network crew to discuss the program's impressive progress after losing several games during nonconference play, as well as the losing streaks that nearly left the Aggies on the outside looking in for the tournament.
McMillan also mentioned that senior guard Rylan Griffen, who scored 45 points and nine threes over the last two games, is his player to watch during the SEC Tournament, and will be counted on to make a consistent impact if the Aggies want to make a run this week.
Texas A&M will face Oklahoma on Thursday at 8:30 p.m., which will air on the SEC Network.

“With the way we started the season, I don’t know if people thought we’d get an NIT invite. The first four games were a little rocky. But we really got it going, man, and I’m really proud of this group.”
